COVID-19: Access to the Welgevonden dam area and children’s play parks (14 January 2021)

Welgevonden dam area

Please take note that Welgevonden Estate homeowners and residents will continue to have access to the Welgevonden dam area under the current Level 3 lockdown regulations. This is allowed for the following reasons:

  • The dam is a private facility located on private property.

  • It is not open to the public, and is only accessible to WHOA members, their families, and those who live on the estate.

  • Estate management has complete control over access to the dam area. It is fully fenced off, and access can only be obtained via one gate which allows access via a fingerprint scanner. Only those who are registered on the estate’s biometric access control system can open the gate.

  • The gate, as well as the dam area, is monitored via CCTV cameras that are linked to and monitored 24/7 by the Welgevonden Estate security control centre. The number of individuals present in the dam area is monitored and can be controlled, should it be necessary.

The following measures, however, apply:

  • A maximum of 50 individuals will be allowed inside the dam area at any given time.

  • Those visiting the dam area must at all time wear masks as prescribed in the lockdown regulations.

  • Safe social distancing must be adhered to at all time.

Children’s play parks

We wish to point out that it impossible to sanitize Welgevonden Estate’s children’s play equipment and jungle gyms, and to ensure the hygiene of the equipment on an ongoing basis. We therefore urge parents to decide responsibly whether to allow your children to use these facilities. Should you allow them to do so, then please ensure suitable hygiene measures for them.

Conclusion

Seen against the seriousness of the current COVID-19 situation in our area and further afield, estate management strongly advises against entering and using the dam area, the children’s play parks and other public facilities on the estate. At the same time we acknowledge the fact that individual opinions might differ. We therefore wish to point out that those who enter the dam area, swim in the dam, or allow their children to use the play park facilities, do so entirely at their own risk. Excom will not entertain any claims that may arise as result of such actions.
