Dear Welgevonden Estate Homeowners and Residents
Winter has settled in across the Boland, bringing colder days, steady rains, and the quiet charm the season is known for. It’s a time to adjust the pace, enjoy the shift in atmosphere, and take in the beauty that winter brings to our part of the world and, especially, to Welgevonden Estate!

Progress update: Welgevonden Park
We’re pleased to report that the building plans for Welgevonden Park have been approved by the Stellenbosch Municipality. This marks the official start of the construction phase, with the site having been handed over to the contractor on 28 May 2025, and work currently underway.
Use of the Welgevonden Park facilities
Excom will soon be conducting an opinion survey to gauge interest from Welgevonden Estate homeowners and residents in using the tennis and padel courts, swimming pool, and clubhouse.
We encourage everyone to take part. Your input will help shape the systems and rules for bookings, usage hours, general conduct, and more, based on the preferences of our community.
Further details will follow soon.
Update: Land use application: Erf 7001 Stellenbosch
Our earlier newsletters regarding the Stellenbosch Municipality’s application for rezoning, subdivision, and consent use of municipal property erf 7001 Stellenbosch, refers. This application is to allow for 201 conventional residential zone erven, five public open space zone erven, one utility services zone erf, and public roads on the erf. (Erf 7001 is located adjacent to Welgevonden Estate in the reservoir area to the south of Belladonna and Wildeklawer streets.)
Various stakeholders – amongst others, the WHOA, as well as individuals from Welgevonden Estate, Cloetesville, and Stellenbosch – submitted comments in response to the municipality’s public notice, published on 25 January 2024.
The appeal process has since been concluded, and the municipality has issued its final notice to approve the development. Read the full document here.
Improving the appearance of Welgevonden Estate
Our maintenance and upgrade programme across Welgevonden Estate continues to make steady progress. Current work includes improvements to paved areas, visitor parking bays, the poort passageways, and the adjustment of selected speed bumps and humps to enhance driving comfort and road safety. Upgrades to smaller open areas within the estate also form part of the programme.
See the photographs at the end of this newsletter which provide a before-and-after snapshot of some of the work recently completed.
Supporting residents of Huis Ebenhaeser
Thank you to everyone who recently supported the Welgevonden Estate community initiative for Huis Ebenhaeser – a neighbouring care facility in Cloetesville that provides daily care to more than 100 senior citizens from the greater Stellenbosch area.
The photograph below was taken during the handover of essential personal care items, including toiletries and adult nappies, generously donated by Welgevonden Estate residents.

In closing
Thank you for staying engaged and involved in the life of our estate. Whether it’s through sharing your views, supporting community initiatives, or simply taking pride in our surroundings, your participation helps keep Welgevonden Estate a well-cared-for and connected place to live.
As winter settles in, embrace the chill and make the most of the season’s quieter moments as we head into the heart of the colder months.
Best regards
Gawie Marx
